He starts the trip back by way of Route 66, with certain plans. His plans change when he rekindles a love interest with his old girl friend (Tina). At the time, he has no idea that this romantic rendezvous will take him through the doorway into organized crime.
When Vince and Tina tell everyone that they are going to get engaged, Tina's father tells Vince, that if he takes Tina past the Holland Tunnel, he will have something to contend with as he pointed to a shot gun hanging on the wall in the den..
During that time, Vince was having a problem with a local assemblyman and decided to return to California. Just before leaving, he received a call from Tina's father telling Vince what would happen if he decided to take Tina with him.
